Info About Boulder City NV
Boulder City was established in a harsh desert environment as a result of the need to house workers who were contracted to build the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. These workers started settling in tents along the river as soon as the site for the dam was chosen in 1930. Their temporary homes were collectively known as “Ragtown”.
To accommodate the massive scale of the dam project and the length of time it would take to complete it, the Bureau of Reclamation and Six Companies, Inc. decided to build a semi-permanent town for the workers. Boulder City was a rare example of a town that was fully planned and constructed under government supervision. It was established in 1931 and officially named after the nearby Boulder Canyon. However, it was commonly referred to as “Ragtown” before that.
