A hidden leak can waste thousands of gallons of water and cause serious damage before you ever see it. Smart water leak sensors help catch problems early, and in Southern Nevada, you may be able to get part of the cost back through the SNWA Home Leak Sensor Rebate.

How the SNWA Leak Sensor Rebate Works

At the time of writing, the Southern Nevada Water Authority offers 50 percent off the purchase price or $200, whichever is less, on qualifying smart leak detection devices. Key requirements include:

  • Your property must receive water service from an SNWA member agency, with the account in good standing.
  • You must be the property owner or the water account holder.
  • One rebate is allowed per property.
  • You apply online first to receive a rebate coupon, then purchase within 30 days of the coupon date.
  • The device must be installed at the listed address within 90 days of purchase.
  • SNWA verifies installation through a telephone survey or site inspection.

Qualifying products have included whole-home monitors from brands such as Flo by Moen, Phyn, StreamLabs, Bluebot, Hydrific, and LeakSecure. Program details and the eligible product list can change, so always confirm current terms on the SNWA website before you buy.

Types of Smart Leak Detectors

Spot Sensors

Small battery-powered sensors placed near water heaters, under sinks, or behind toilets and appliances. They alert your phone when they detect water on the floor.

Whole-Home Flow Monitors

These attach to your main water line and learn your household’s normal water use. When they detect unusual flow, such as a burst supply line or a toilet running all day, they alert you. Many models can automatically shut off the water.

Installation Tips

  • Flow monitors with shutoff valves are plumbed into the main line and are typically installed by a licensed plumber.
  • If your home has automatic fire sprinklers, SNWA notes that leak sensors must be installed only on the domestic water line, never upstream on the main service line.
  • Place spot sensors where leaks most often start: next to the water heater, under kitchen and bathroom sinks, and behind the washing machine and refrigerator.

What a Leak Sensor Can’t Do

A smart monitor tells you that water is leaking, but usually not where. If your monitor keeps flagging continuous flow and you can’t find the source, professional leak detection can locate leaks behind walls, under floors, and in slab lines. If a sensor alerts you to a burst line, shut off the main valve and call for emergency plumbing help.
